88. Johann König
Category: Gallerist
Nationality: German
Last Year: Reentry (27, with his family, 2005)
Johann König started his Berlin gallery at the precocious age of twenty-one, a headstart granted, no doubt by family connections household of art publishers and museum directors). However, having hit the ground running, König hasn’t dropped pace for a second – his gallery now has a reputation for identifying and then supporting artists of a sensual yet conceptual bent, including Jeppe Hein, Jordan Wolfson, Tue Greenfort, Tatiana Trouvé and Michaela Meise. There’s no doubt that the gallery is seen as a European hive of art cool. No doubt either that artists showing at the gallery tend to go on to have big careers.
