Beatrix Ruf sports a many-feathered cap. Alongside numerous independent curatorial projects (2006 Tate Triennial, 2008 Yokohama Triennial…), she curates the Ringier collection, holds an editorial post at publishers JRP Ringier and writes prolifically. But it’s her eight years as director/curator of the Kunsthalle Zurich that have gilded her rep: via shows by General Idea, Trisha Donnelly, Tris Vonna-Michell and many more, she’s presided over a programme that’s hip but never shallow, and almost certainly the sharpest on the kunsthalle circuit: if you’re an artist at midcareer or before, under Ruf’s roof is where you want to be.
