Annette Schönholzer and Marc Spiegler run Art Basel and its sister fair at Miami Beach, among the biggest events on the art market calendar. This summer’s Art Basel went much better than many people had expected (attendance was up on the previous year), but the Miami edition (like most art fairs) looks a little more shaky: a reported 60 galleries (including big names such as Maureen Paley and Arndt & Partner) will not be returning in December. Perhaps that’s why this winter’s fair promises some interesting improvements and additions that should keep its influence up, with larger booths for dealers, emerging artists occupying the central space and an installation by Pae White taking up the waterfront space.
